CONOR BRADY was editor of The Irish Times from 1986 to 2002. From 2003 to 2005 he was a Visiting Professor at the City University of New York. In 2005 he was appointed as Commissioner of the Garda Siochana Ombudsman on the nomination of the Government and the Oireachtas.
He completed his term in 2011. He is author of ‘Guardians of the Peace,’ a history of the Garda Siochana 1922-1972 and of ‘Up with the Times,’ a memoir of his career in journalism. His novel, ‘A June of Ordinary Murders,’ set in Victorian Dublin, was published in March by New Island Books.

Mrs Kearney tries to win a place of pride for her daughter Kathleen in the Irish Cultural Movement by arranging for her to star in a series of concerts…but all does not go according to plan!
On 22 and 23 November at the James Joyce Centre 35 North Great George’s Street, the series of concerts will be repeated, featuring The Shannon Colleens and The Sweny Players, with all proceeds going towards the volunteer-run Swenys Pharmacy.
The performance will commence at 8pm, tickets cost €15 and are only available from Swenys Pharmacy, 1 Lincoln Place (the top of Westland Row, view map here) or by calling 086 050 7995. Please note: tickets cannot be purchased through the Centre.
Get one for yourself and for your friends who cannot be trusted to come otherwise!

This February join us at the James Joyce Centre for a new reading group which aims to put YOU into Ulysses. Led by Dubliner and Joycean Caroline Elbay, the group will work through the episodes of Joyce’s masterpiece in a structured, accessible and relaxed environment. The course will last 16 weeks and will finish the week before Bloomsday – just in time for you to boast to the pretenders in costume that you’ve actually read the book!

Wonderland Productions will launch their CD recording of Joyce’s Dubliners from 6pm on Thursday 14th March in the fine Georgian surroundings of the Cobalt Cafe, 16 North Great Georges St, Dublin 1.
The CD comprises of ten of Joyce’s classic stories from Dubliners, told and performed by 22 Irish actors, led by the celebrated Joycean actor Barry McGovern.
Wine and nibbles will be served, actors will read extracts from Dubliners and the renowned Joycean tenor Noel O’Grady (www.noelogrady.ie) will sing some songs from Joyce.

Join us at the Joyce Centre for a traditional full-Irish Bewley’s Bloomsday Breakfast, complete with all the Ulyssean fare you’ve come to expect – yes, icky inner organs and all! And as you eat with relish and savour the fine tang of the grub, our troupe of Joycean players will serve up a platter of scenes from Joyce’s masterpiece. Actors Les Doherty, Elaine Reddy and John O’Donoghue bring the characters to life, whilst Sinead Murphy and Darina Gallagher (Songs of Joyce) perform musical numbers from the book.
And remember: your ticket covers entry to the James Joyce Centre so you are welcome to pop in later in the day when our exhibitions open up after 2pm!
